Cancer screening

Cancer screening in Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland there are three Cancer screening programmes; Breast screening, Bowel Cancer Screening and Cervical Cancer screening. Cancer Screening programmes aim to detect cancer, or risk of cancer, at an early stage, when treatment is more likely to be effective.
It is important to take up the offer of screening when invited, the earlier a cancer is detected the better.

The Cancer Screening team within the Public Health Agency is responsible for supporting the commissioning and QA of the breast, cervical and bowel cancer screening programmes. Click below for  information on eligibility for each screening programme.
